Most days we eat lunch out so at night we stay in for dinner. We’ve been to some fabulous places but last nights dinner (which is typical for us) was fabulous. Pasha recommended this great smoky, string cheese and we had fresh fruits, bread, dried fruit and nuts with it. Delicious! I’ll write a post about some of the restaurants later…

The boys have this game where they hide and, when we unsuspectingly come past, they ambush us with the little foam pirate sword that they have (or a stick, or their finger, or a plastic tool, or a glow stick…you get the idea). Little M thinks it’s absolutely the funniest thing ever so we play it quite a bit…and when you’ve been on the same tiny playground for three hours a day for the past two weeks you are kind of limited to begin with. I am so worried though that one of the caretakers out walking around with other kids will see us and think that we are unfit parents! I experience these playground politics when Matt was little but finally concluded that boys will make weapons out of absolutely anything, but when you are in the middle of the bonding period it is so nerve-wracking. Plus, it makes it hard to get a picture that doesn’t involve weapons.

(If you’re really bored you can play a ‘Where’s Waldo’ kinda game with swords and our pictues!)

We learned the Kazakh word for smile today (kul) so pictures are much better. Previously, whenever we had the camera out little M would wave. Cute, but not so great after a while. Also, not sure if you can tell but somebody got a haircut last night!

Another family came in today (for their second trip to pick up their daughter!!) so we didn’t get to do any sightseeing but we had a great afternoon all the same because I finally got access to gmail and blogger!! It’s been something like 5 days which seems like an eternity. (I am writing these on the actual day everything happens and then posting the next day…or a week later as the case may be.) Right now it is Thursday night at 9pm and I hope to post this on Friday around lunch time.

Thanks for your patience while I’ve been missing…I am hopeful that we have permanently fixed our problems! We are having such a great time, with little M and seeing all the great sights of Semey, but it is starting to feel like a very long trip. We really miss you all and kind of miss our normal routine too.

Surfing on the swing!

We had to put together a book of our time together as a family during the bonding period - each day a photo and small caption to be translated into Russian. We finished up all we could today and will have it translated tomorrow because we petition the court on Monday! One of our team told us today that we could get a court date as soon as the middle of next week…but it could also be up to a week after that. Please pray that it goes quickly. We will miss little M so much but the sooner we finish court the sooner we can come back to get him for good!

Random...outside of Park City (the little mall/market that we go to is this giant inflatable playground things. We just love the name...

  1. Noticed the haircut immediately -- he still looks adorable, but I'll bet soonest he's going to want to emulate BIG M! (I'm trying to imagine what he'd look like with all that hair.) Too, he looks intent upon blowing that harmonica!! That should be a good item for him while you're away.
You all look FAB and so happy -- your "kuls" are beautiful! And, that food looks delicious -- are those dates at all like Medjools?

  2. The dates are not quite as good as the Medjools, but they are really good and quite inexpensive!
